Dear AVAP Members,
On behalf of all of us at Kansas State University who knew Chris Gruber, I want to express my heartfelt thanks for your most generous donation to the memorial scholarship established in his honor. You were much more than his professional colleagues; you were his friends. As Chris and I traveled the country together, he often reflected on the amazing fellowship that he had with so many of you. He always looked forward to your meetings and made it a priority to take as many of our staff to the AVMA annual meeting as he possibly could, not just to learn how to be better stewards of the work responsibilities, but to experience the camaraderie that exists among you. It was a privilege to attend part of your meeting in Chicago this week. You are a very special group of people who get to work on a day-by-day basis with people who really care for a cause. This gift from you means more to us than words can express. I know that Chirs’ family will be deeply touched by your expression of love and respect for Chris.

After eight years with WSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine and AVAP, Andrea Farmer has accepted a new challenge in the area of development. On June 1st, she will begin a new journey as the Director of Development for WSU’s College of Education. No longer serving in the area of veterinary medicine, Andrea respectfully resigned the position of president to current vice-president, Kelley Marchbanks.
Andrea served as president of AVAP since 2011, extending her term in 2012 to fill a vacancy. She has been instrumental in the planning of the 2012 conference as well as the upcoming 2013 conference to be held in Chicago this summer. She brought energy, charisma and dedication to AVAP and her work will resonate for years to come through the organization.
We wish Andrea all the best and thank her for her years of service not only to AVAP but the veterinary medical profession. Please forward all AVAP related questions to Kelley at [email protected].
The AVMA released the results of their workforce study On April 23, 2013. The Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges shared the following response with AVAP members in response to the release of the study. For more information, visit the AVMA website.
